Is it OK to have your tax refund deposited in a friend or family member's bank account, in case you don't have a US account?
It's a terrible idea.
The only way to figure out whose money it really is, is to analyze the IRS tax transcripts of both people.
I've seen a few family fights because of this kind of thing. It's a very bad idea. Each person decides that it's theirs, then I have to fight with the other side to prove that it's not really theirs.
Sometimes the person who got the funds in their account forgets, or didn't realize they got a transfer, or decided that it must be some sort of refund they were waiting for, and doesn't tell the real owner, and they get accused of stealing.
It's also not legal.
