Does your tax accountant understand your lifestyle? Is yours completely different than theirs?
I've found that important tax planning strategies have been missed simply because of a vastly different lifestyle between the accountant and the client.
While reviewing clients' prior year returns, it became clear to me that certain strategies simply didn't occur to the old accountant.
This is especially the case when most of the accountant's clients match their own lifestyle, and then someone comes along who is very different.
Expats are one kind of demographic whose tax planning require specially developed strategies. Not only that, but tailor made planning depends on which country they reside in, as well.
Someone residing in country A may have an opposite strategy from someone in country B.
Be smart and make sure to hire an accountant who specializes in your demographic.
